A LITTLE ABOUT LEARNING
Most people associate learning as formal education achieved in School, College or Education. Personally, I don’t see learning as something that stops as soon as we leave education. In fact, I believe a lot of learning is unavoidable and continues throughout our lifetimes - it is done through those all-important, and often stressful life lessons. Dealing with situations that get thrust upon us or that we are thrown into often give us our most valuable education as we learn to cope. Yes, this is often extremely inconvenient and not something that any of us cherish by any means – until we can look back and see how far we have come.
Humans are naturally inquisitive and our ability to learn new things helps us to develop and grow. In fact, we continue to learn in our day-to-day lives without even realising it; the best route to take home, how to manage a health condition, how to use a computer, look after an animal or even to cook a meal.
Most of us have particular topics that we are interested in and learning about these subjects can bring about a sense of fulfilment and contribute greatly to our general wellbeing. Just as we rely on food to nourish our bodies, the knowledge we gain in life or through education nourishes our minds.
The knowledge we gain throughout life can bring with it a great many benefits whether it is learnt in our personal or professional. It can give us a greater insight into ourselves; what we enjoy, how we learn best, how we manage under pressure and how we prefer to communicate, as well as increasing our knowledge and skills in a variety of ways.
Making the decision to learn or allowing ourselves to take the chances that come our way can open-up many new doors. Learning helps to broaden our minds and perspectives, allowing us to relate to people and situations that we previously thought we had nothing in common with. Learning gives us the confidence to follow our own paths. It helps us to stand up and compete with others, secure in the knowledge that we are capable. It is what encourages new ideas and opportunities and the resilience to follow those ideas through. With all that in mind, what isn’t to love about learning?
The bottom line in all this is that whatever your situation in life you will get the opportunity to learn or the chance to do something new and potentially scary. Instead of thinking of all the reasons why you shouldn’t, maybe try thinking of all the reasons why you should.
