Opening up to opportunity encourages us to face change. Change forces us out of our comfort zone. When our lives are regular and comfortable it is only natural to try and avoid anything that changes this but unless we ty to jump into something that shakes things up we never grow or move forward.

So here I am, with a few tips to help you open up to opportunity when it arises.

1)     Create a goal for yourself to help you focus on what you want to achieve, whether that is being more social, becoming more active or getting a promotion,

2)     Focus can be difficult but visualisation can be really helpful to keep us on track. Try keeping a journal, or making a mood board with pictures and quotes related to your goals or of things to inspire motivation and production,

3)     Try to say yes – this doesn’t mean saying yes to things that bring you down or if someone is demanding too much of your time, but saying yes to opportunity, this could be things like volunteer projects or helping at your child’s school. Taking these opportunities wont automatically get you to your goal but they will help you to learn new skills and meet new people. They will probably also be fun!

4)     Talk to people. One of the best ways to do this is to be curious – ask questions, pay compliments,

5)     Start that thing you’ve always wanted to do – you may want to try your hand at calligraphy or horse riding, or maybe there is a course online you’ve had your eye on but it’s never the right time… if you wait for the right time chances are it won’t happen. Take a deep breath and start. Schedule regular time and commit.

You have two choices; you can move towards opportunity or away from it. Fear can prevent you from being open and taking opportunities when they arise. This creates a pattern of moving away from things that are good for you and hiding away behind what is comfortable in your life. Unfortunately, this can decrease our confidence further and feed into the circle of avoiding opportunity. However, opening up to opportunity and doing things that get us out of this comfortable hiding place increase our confidence. This means we are more likely to do more things that are out of our comfort zone, encourage us to meet more people, strengthen our skills and step towards our goals.
