ON AMAZEMENT
This fortnight, this Philosopher-in-Residence is going full pseud and reserving the whole column simply for describing and encouraging amazement.
No place here for the modern, often usage with negative connotations of disbelief.
Today, just for a few minutes, read, absorb, reflect upon some gorgeous, amazement-provoking things…
Yesterday
In a stony, tilled, work-in-progress garden border, a plump-crested wren unbothered by the changeable weather or the lack of lawn studied intently a bit of branch, chirping beyond its miniature lung capacity.
This Week
The six-and-a-half-year-old peeled a brown paper bag of mushrooms for the first time. Thrall filled her proud little chest and exclamations of the new experience. The mushrooms got peeled slower and tasted better.
This Month
Rest replaced pressure. Solitude replaced busy-ness. Pootling replaced rushing. Swollen silence replaced clamour. Plain replaced pattern.
Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Splendour – it would be splendid if you could make it. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.
In the meantime,
Happy Planning
