ON CELTS

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
07.05.2026.

The ancient Celts were famed for their fierce defence of their realm, skill at craftsmanship and creativity. In this, the final chapter of the current Nostalgia Series, this Philosopher-in-Residence is going to take a look at how we 21st century souls can channel our inner/outer Celt.

C reativity: Making pictures, collages, painting, drawing, sticker art: this is not just for kids. We adults lose touch with our creative side when we readily get mired in the day-to-day or supposed dopamine hit of flicking onto a smartphone. Try just a 10 minute notebook doodle as an alternative break one day this week.

E xercise: It doesn't have to be chasing prey with a spear, or anything you’re uncomfortable with. Maybe another alternative 10 minute break option of getting some fresh air as you walk, run or roll outside.

L obbying: Is coming back around with somewhat more kudos this time around. If you find yourself tiring of the anger or echoes on social media, but do feel passionately about something, why not go back to grassroots and write to your MP, or an organisation about what you’d like them to change?

T ry something out: It could be a new food, a new hobby, even just a different newspaper or magazine. We need a little novelty to keep our wits sharp and avoid stagnation/getting eaten by that woolly mammoth coming over the horizon.

S tay grounded: Routine is good. That doesn’t have to be the same thing every day, but rather a series of commitments to yourself to make a little time for the CELT of today’s recommendations. If you’re prone to putting everyone else first, skipping lunch and breaks to crack on with tasks, you need to take a lesson from the CELTS!

If you try these techniques, we’d love to hear how you found them.

Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Sunscreen – arm yourself with adequate protection by being sure to stop by to read it. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
