ON MY MIND
As part of our fifth birthday celebrations, this Philosopher-in-Residence is indulging in a spot of #ThrowbackThursday this fortnight and featuring the very first poem from our very first book, Cornwall On My Mind. You can buy this in our online shop right now at the following link if this morsel of mindfulness whets your whistle and you’d like to read the full collection and see the stunning Cornish photographs that accompany the works.

STRANDED
Along the cove, where the froth and flow of the tide met
the gleaming black rocks, I waited for her to arrive.
So many times, so many almost-theres,
so much gritting of teeth and rejection of tears, over the years I always dreamed, hoped, believed, that a different way would come.
But I lacked: the conviction, power, resolve to travel that obvious path.
And now, as the burnished, tarry surface of the rocks glinted in the evening sunshine,
I wondered if, this time, it would be different.
Would she arrive, blue eyes sparkling, corn-coloured hair flailing in the wind,
skin glowing in the fading light of the day, the moment?
I knew it was time, high time, high tide
And although I would never say never
If not now it could be never, for another time
I allowed myself the makings of a smile as her shadow bounced
off the Cornish cliffside
And in that instant, she was smiling too
Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On Easy – I trust it won’t be too hard to make time to stop by and enjoy that read. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.
In the meantime,
Happy Planning
