ON PAY
With the cost of living rising and a tense geopolitical climate, it’s only natural for people to be feeling concerns about monies in and expenditure out.
Some of this is a matter of maths (apologies for stating the obvious). When it comes to the matter of pay, as humans in this great United Plandom we are hard-wired to obsess and over-complicate things, especially when there’s a blurrable boundary between a hard fact such as remuneration and an emotive subject like worth, reward and fairness.
As a proud Living Wage Foundation Employer, Make Me A Plan endeavours to balance those two components. We pledge to only ever pay staff and freelancers at least the real Living Wage Foundation rate (and personally, although money isn’t everything, I don’t kid myself that if that fairness-founded rate of remuneration wasn’t a starting point, the other stuff we layer on would have as much resonance).
The other aspects of reward and recognition, for this Philosopher-in-Residence, (looking through an employee and employer lens), feel more important. Does “pay” or reward feel fair? In line with effort input? Similar or better to what you would find elsewhere? What you would do if it was your decision, taking everything else into account?
Some of the reward and recognition values we have here at MMAP include: fully flexible working (work all your weekly hours in one go and go on holiday with your kids for the rest of the week, should you so wish); a flat structure where everyone’s ideas can inform current projects or become the next big company mission; treat menus and company socials; free ELearning and plan allocations and the opportunity to become a director and/or project manager.
What else could we do? What things does your organisation do to make you feel valued, beyond that bank credit each payday? I’d love to hear from you.
Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On Queens, as we approach Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this topic you’d like me to write about.
In the meantime,
Happy Planning
