ON STRENGTH

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
05.03.2020.

You may have thought it was just another slightly grey March morning, if you’re reading this from somewhere outside of Make Me A Plan’s homeland, Cornwall.

Cornish folk and friends of Cornwall alike recognise the 5th of March as St Piran’s Day, the patron saint of tinners and widely recognised through the striking black and white flag of St Piran that adorns public buildings, official documents and more tourist memorabilia than you can shake a millstone at.

When you read up on legend of St Piran you learn of a hardy individual, who was prone to casually healing the sick or handling being flung into the sea with a millstone round his neck with unique problem-solving guile.

We here at MMAP like to think of ourselves as similarly resourceful individuals, and of course as this is a philosophy blog, the opportunity to couple an insight into Cornish heritage with compiling a dedicated acrostic for this fortnight’s edition realised a particular dream for us.

Select from our modern-day St Piran’s menu for strength of mind and character, whenever someone or something plonks adversity in your path.

Stay focused on the task in hand/around neck.

Act naturally.

Imagine yourself as a tall, powerful giant who can clearly conquer anything.

Never beat yourself up.

Travel light and only leave footprints.

Please yourself (or at least try to).

Ignore those who don’t believe in you.

Reign supreme.

Act positively.

Never give up.

Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On Rules. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this topic you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Towlennans Lowen
