ON SUNSCREEN
Those millennials and pre-millennials amongst the good ship Plankind will remember the life-hack before life-hacks were a thing Baz Luhrmann hit “Wear Sunscreen”. If you’re not familiar, take a listen and look up the lyrics.
If you are familiar, head over to your preferred search engine and learn that the song in fact originated from a column by US journalist Mary Schmich and proceed to dazzle your mates with this lesser-known fact hence.
A few years ago, this Philosopher-in-Residence and lover of a good spreadsheet dissected the full innards of the words and itemised this into:
Things I already do
Things I do but could improve on
Things I definitely need to work on
I totally recommend this approach but to save you time on the spreadsheet nerdery, do just pop us a message if you want the ready-made version sent over to you.
If full-song-geeking out isn’t your thing, and you’re already wearing sunscreen, let’s go for the “just one thing” approach.
If I could give just one piece of advice to my younger self (angsty angst aside), it would be the Goldilocks approach to cutting your toenails if you’re a keen runner or walker. Too frequently and this will be super sore, too infrequently and it will affect your gait and make your toenails die and fall off. This would have saved my younger self sore tootsies and pre-race worries!
What would be your one self-care top tip to your younger self or other people? Drop this in the comments and let us know your Wear Sunscreen essay adherence too.
Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Solstice. It won’t take long to read, so bookmark the date to cast some light on the matter. Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.
In the meantime,
Happy Planning
