ON THE REAL LIVING WAGE

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
23.10.2025.

With the Living Wage Foundation new rates of pay announced this week, this Philosopher-in-Residence wanted to explain a bit about Make Me A Plan’s decision to become a Living Wage employer from day 1.

We wanted to base the business on a set of values – which you’ve often read about in this blog. To be a company that focused on wellbeing, and working well, we felt it was essential to commit to paying everyone at least the real Living Wage.

The Living Wage Foundation is an independent organisation, free of political ties, meaning it is ideally placed to calculate a fair rate of pay, which understandably increases each year in relation to the cost of living.

They recognise that employers need some time to profile the pay raise into their cashflows, so that’s why the rates get announced in autumn, when most organisations set their budgets for the upcoming financial year.

Businesses then have until the following April to start paying the new rate of real Living Wage.

If you would like to find out more, you can visit their website, or pop me a message, I’d love to help with any questions you may have.

Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Fireworks. Hopefully it’ll spark your interest! Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
