SCROLL FREE WORKING
This month all of the team at Make Me A Plan are working on helpful tips and tricks to align with Scroll Free September.
Throughout my own daily life, I wouldn’t have enough fingers to count how many times I pick my phone up and aimlessly scroll and this action, most of the time, isn’t even a conscious thought, it’s just something I do from muscle memory.
Now, if I went ahead and counted how many breaks, lunch breaks, bathroom breaks etc have disappeared in a scroll hole, I would probably have enough time saved up for a very nice holiday.
I decided to take a stand and retrain my muscles so I can be more mindful throughout my day. Do I need to fill every single gap with a glance at social media? Absolutely not. I am choosing to stop, (put down my phone) and smell the roses. Don’t get me wrong, I am no different to you and in all likelihood, it will still be glued to my side, hand, pocket, etc but I am choosing to look around instead.
Here are 3 scroll free September working tips;
- Start with a time control on your most subconsciously used apps. Make the app only work in certain time frames, say after 4pm, or you can give yourself a time limit, such as 20 minutes. You can make all these changes in the settings app on your phone.
- When you have a break at work. Instead of moving your eyes from one screen to another, get up and go outside and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine on your skin. Take a few big, deep, breaths and relish this moment away from the hustle and bustle.
- Do you ever find yourself mindlessly scrolling while you’re eating at lunch? I would like to introduce you to mindful eating. It’s wonderful. We pop our phones away, we give our eyes a break and we focus on the task at hand. This allows our minds to acknowledge that we are giving our body sustenance and it prevents us from over or under eating because our attention is not on our body’s signals.
That’s our Scroll Free September working tips – what tips do you have to share?
