ON GOLDILOCKS

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
27.04.2023.

Goldilocks. Ancient fairytale or modern conundrum? This Philosopher-in-Residence has been reflecting on our dear United Plandom wanting everything to be just right this fortnight. I’ve waxed lyrical in other blogs about the value in slowing down, taking stock, providing critical challenge and not doing what’s always been done/what others are doing.

In busy times, when the year has suddenly almost reached May and nobody can quite remember what happened to Christmas or winter, it’s common to skit from day to day worrying about what’s just right (or not quite right) and consequently not using brainpower on the more basic tenets of a calm and clear modus operandi.

The most important thing to Goldilocks was the quality assessment of porridge, chairs and beds. Given that we are providers of nutrition plans, chairing consultancy and wellbeing coaching, here is MMAP’s guidance for you on that tripod of just right…

Porridge

Cheap and cheerful. Make with water instead of milk to save money. Make with banana or berries if you can afford fresh fruit or with raisins if you can’t. Add peanut butter for extra protein and natural fat. Eat as a snack or a meal other than breakfast to mix up the times of day you warm up and fill up.

Chairs

If you have the choice to avoid sitting, appreciate and utilise that ability. Split your waking time between sitting, standing, moving and lying down. If circumstances make you chairbound, an adaptation that can be performed without the need for physical movement is to vary things that require thinking, with things that require doing, with things that involve refreshment, with things that involve rest.

On Beds

Continuing the topic of how to rest and recharge: keep bed sacred. It’s not for working, or going on your phone. Bed is for sleep, relaxation, sex. Don’t break those boundaries or your wellbeing certainly won’t be just right.

Next fortnight, I’ll be musing On May, as part of Make Me A Plan’s 5th birthday bonanza, Take Five. You may wish to stop by and join the retrospective.

Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
