ON SOBRIETY

The Philosopher-in-Residence Blog Series from Make Me A Plan's Principal Planner, Anna Pascoe
12.03.2026.

With conflict raging across the world, and mental health issues at an all-time high, we are not short of sobering thoughts at the moment.

As a wellness and health-forward business, the good ship Make Me A Plan wanted to take this opportunity to focus on goal-oriented sobriety.

We know, through our work that many of you struggle with addictions and compulsions: be that alcohol, substances, disordered eating and other forms of self-sabotage.

Here in Plankind we aim to be just that – kind. We also love a manageable, staged plan, especially when it comes to forming positive habits. So – if total abstinence from your compulsion feels too much, could Stage 1 be a morning trying to refrain? And then Stage 2, a morning plus and afternoon? Now’s not the time to think about Stage 100 and over your whelm. Sketch out your first 5 stages, and let us know what they are – we’d love to hear from you.

Next fortnight I’ll be writing On Nostalgia, in the first of a series on just that. Something for you to look back on fondly so be sure to stop by to browse it.

Please get in touch with any particular aspects of this subject you’d like me to write about.

In the meantime,

Happy Planning
